A man was arrested Sunday after police say he spent weeks terrorizing a neighborhood with an air horn that sounds like a train.

Residents of the neighborhood say that they have been woken up about 4 am by the sound for more than a month.

“The sound is like a train coming through the neighborhood,” El Segundo Police Lt. Ray Garcia told NBC 4.

After weeks of trying to catch the man, police caught a break when residents spotted the man’s getaway car: a blue four-door sedan.  Police then pulled over a blue 2006 Chevrolet Aveo in the area and saw air horn equipment inside the car.

John W. Nuggent was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace and his car — with horn inside — was impounded.

No one is sure exactly why the man had been doing this, but police believe he may have an “ax to grind” with someone in the area.

“He’s been doing this for weeks, and we’ve been chasing him for weeks — but we got him,” Garcia said.
