Forever 21 released a list of nearly 180 stores that could close soon as part of bankruptcy proceedings. The list namess 26 stores in Southern California, including the Forever 21 located at The River in Rancho Mirage.
According to CNBC, Forever 21 doesn’t necessarily expect to close all of the locations on the released list, as it is hoping to renegotiate leases with landlords. The locations listed were the least profitable for the company and a spokesperson for Forever 21 said the restructuring “will focus on maximizing the value of our U.S. footprint and shuttering certain international locations.”
A closure of the Rancho Mirage store would be a devastating blow for the River in Rancho Mirage, which has seen numerous closures over the past few years – including Starbucks, Coachella Winery, and Midici Pizza. The shopping center saw Forever 21 open in the location after another retailer, Borders, filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
The company’s F21 red store at the Westfield Palm Desert and the location at Cabazon’s Desert Hills Premium Outlets were not named as a potential closures.
