A Chino Hills neighborhood was surprised to find a 50-foot Google research balloon had fallen from above and into a Palm Tree in their neighborhood.
The balloon crashed so quietly, residents didn’t even know what had happened until cops showed up.
“We ran out, and the police said don’t go near it,” Janet Olaffson told CBS. “At that time they had got a call from the company that said its a weather balloon.”
The balloon is part of Google’s “Project Loon” – a research and development idea which would deliver 3-G Internet access in rural and underdeveloped areas.
The balloon was supposed to land somewhere nearby (and not in the Palm Tree).
