We all know Palm Desert drivers (and the city government) are terrible – but, can they at least not run over Captain America before his new movie comes out tomorrow?
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department decided Wednesday should be dress up day and had a deputy portray the Avenger as part of a safety operation, while walking across Palm Desert intersections.
Not even Captain America could prevent traffic violations in Palm Desert.https://t.co/E74DsvEpSB

As the Desert Sun reports, it did not go well:
Unfortunately for Steven Nelson – the sheriff’s deputy under the mask – there were several violators, including several who drove vehicles that nearly hit him.
“Even though I’m clearly visible, people say they don’t see me,” Nelson said at Monterey Avenue and Fred Waring Drive, which was one of several intersections involved in the daylong operation.
The operation involved intersections that are often the site of traffic collisions and violations. They included Highway 111 and Monterey, Highway 111 and Portola Avenue.
Cops on motorcycles then chased down those seen committing a violation – which even had one stretch where 5 people were pulled over.
“There were a couple moments I wasn’t sure if they were going to hit me or not,” Nelson told the Desert Sun.
And as bad as it was, thankfully it was Steve Rogers today and not Black Widow – I shudder to think how distracting that would’ve been for drivers.
