No one did actual work today – instead, everyone crashed Target’s website

Target crash

Cyber Monday, a day you show up to the job just to use the company’s computer to buy a new HDTV for yourself, has been extremely successful – so much so that Target’s website could not handle everyone trying to shop on it.

Some shoppers were greeted with a stand-by message when visiting the website for Cyber Monday, instead of 15% off everything – but, according to Target, that was the plan.

“Both traffic and order volumes are exceeding Target’s Thursday Black Friday event, which was our biggest day ever for online sales,” Eddie Baeb, a spokesman for Target told KTLA. “To help manage the volume, we have been metering traffic to the site. We have teams working diligently to restore Target.com to full functionality.”

Target is not the only one.  KTLA reports that Neiman Marcus, Best Buy, Walmart, and eBay all suffered outages on Black Friday or over the weekend.

Just be glad that your boss is also shopping, so no one will notice that there is not any actual work being done in the office today.
