Your cable television lineup is about to add yet another dumb channel that you will never watch.
As The Desert Sun reported this week, GunTV (an actual thing), will debut in January. This is something that we are hearing about as the headquarters and studio for the channel are located in Thousand Palms. Odds are, unless you are an insomniac or work the graveyard shift, you will never see the channel.
GunTV, which also uses the name “GTV Live Shopping,” is set to launch in January with six hours of daily programming – mostly shopping, starting at 1 a.m.
There are several things about the channel that are ridiculous (that slogan and this media kit, for example) – but nothing more than the way the home shopping channel will use a loophole to sell guns to people on channel 5034 at 3:30 a.m.:
To work within gun laws, GunTV won’t actually sell firearms directly to its viewers. Instead, when a viewer calls GunTV, the network will place an order on behalf of that viewer with Sports South, a Louisiana firearms distributor. Sports South will then ship the weapon to a local gun store, where it can be purchased like normal by the viewer.
Gun stores would still be required to do background checks on the buyer.
And for anyone worried about a channel dedicated exclusively to selling items in the middle of the night that can murder you and your family, do not worry. The channel will also promote safety with a whole three minutes every hour dedicated to firearm education and safety training – or as viewers will call it: a bathroom break.
