Seeing as how we are still completely drained after the recent Presidential election, it was a surprise to many to see the next race for the Palm Springs City Council get started today…nearly a year before anyone actually votes…in a city with a population of only 50,000 people. Sigh.
Henry Hampton, a realtor and and Palm Springs Airport Commissioner, announced his intentions to run outside of a fountain at Palm Springs International Airport, reports the Desert Sun.
Hampton is running for one of two seats up for grabs, currently held by Chris Mills and Ginny Foat.
On his Facebook page, Hampton yells in all caps about why he is running:
I’M RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL TO DO WHAT I CAN, WITH YOU, TO MAKE OUR TOWN A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE. I’M A PROBLEM-SOLVER, A NO-NONSENSE NUTS AND BOLTS KIND OF PERSON WITH ATTENTION TO DETAILS AND LOGICAL SOLUTIONS. I’M NOT A FINGER-POINTER. PEOPLE WANT TO BELIEVE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS AGAIN AND SLEEP EASIER. I AM HERE TO FILL THAT NEED. I WILL WORK HARD TO MAKE OUR CITY GOVERNMENT MORE TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE TO THE CITIZENS AND TO SERVE THE INTERESTS OF THE CITIZENRY OF PALM SPRINGS CALIFORNIA.
Hampton also lists some of his favorite things like Star Wars, House of Cards, mountaineering(!), and alternative rock.
If there is anything else you want to know about him before voting, don’t worry, you have eleven months to ask.
