Two weeks after the Valentine’s Day from Hell, the highway from Palm Desert to Idyllwild has reopened.
Highway 74 is now open to the mountain community, officials announced Thursday.
Access to Idyllwild for the general public has reopened! Visitors still need to use Highway 74 from Palm Desert or Anza to access Highway 243 into town from Mountain Center.

This is the only way into Idyllwild as Highway 74 from Hemet and Highway 243 from Banning remain shut down and could take several more weeks to repair.
Surely, after a couple of weeks without visitors, the town would definitely welcome a visit from you. There’s snow to play with, plenty of cool places to visit, a great brewery, and even top-rated bud and breakfast – so maybe make plans to head the mountain soon, if you can.
