The preliminary investigation revealed she was walking northbound across Ramon Road near Camino Real. The intersection is uncontrolled and it does not appear she was in a crosswalk.
A few hours after the collision, the suspect, 63 year old Jesus Montano of Calexico, arrived at the Palm Springs Police Station to report his involvement. His vehicle was later located parked in Cathedral City and was impounded as evidence.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
Montano was arrested for a felony violation of hit and run for failing to remain on scene of the traffic collision.
