Back in 2014, it looked like Hooters was gearing up for a major return to the Coachella Valley.

According to reporting at the time, plans called for four new Hooters locations across Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Indio, and Coachella. The Indio restaurant was expected to open first, with a proposed location near Jefferson Street and Country Club Drive.

For a desert that doesn’t exactly swim in chain restaurant expansions, four locations was… ambitious.

This Wouldn’t Have Been Hooters’ First Time in the Valley

The announcement wasn’t coming out of nowhere. Hooters previously operated a location near the intersection of Highways 111 and 74, which eventually closed and was later replaced by a Starbucks.

The proposed new locations were also expected to look different from older Hooters restaurants, featuring updated interiors, expanded bar programs, and a more modern design.

So… What Actually Happened?

None of the locations announced in 2014 ever opened.

No construction followed, no grand openings were announced, and over time the plans quietly disappeared. Restaurant expansion announcements often happen well before leases are finalized or shovels hit the ground, and sometimes they simply don’t survive changing priorities.

This was one of those cases.
