Police say a 19-year-old lost his life Tuesday night as a result of chasing his skateboard.

Shaun Clark Jr. was skateboarding with friends around 11:00 pm at Avenue 43 west of Calhoun Street, according to authorities. Then, as KESQ reports, tragedy struck:

For an unknown reason, police say he lost control of his skateboard. As he was chasing after his skateboard, he ran directly into the path of a westbound black Jeep Wrangler. Clark was originally taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, and was later airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center where he died.

Alcohol and speed were not factors, according to police, and the driver of the Jeep has cooperated with authorities.

The tragedy is the second skateboarding related fatality in the last 16 months in The Coachella Valley. In December of 2013, 28-year-old Abelardo Garcia was struck and killed by an SUV while skateboarding to the the bus stop to go to work.
