Whatever Happened to All Those Hooters That Were Supposed to Open in the Coachella Valley?

Back in 2014, there was a lot of talk about multiple Hooters restaurants opening across the Coachella Valley.

A press release at the time suggested that new locations were planned for Palm Springs, Indio, Coachella, and Cathedral City, with openings expected to begin in 2015. Predictably, that got people talking.

Then… nothing happened.

What Was Supposed to Happen

According to early reporting and statements from Hooters, the company was actively looking for sites that offered strong visibility, accessibility, and nearby retail. At one point, an Indio location was reportedly planned for the Northgate development near Jefferson Street and Country Club Drive, with a projected opening in 2017.

There were also rumors of potential locations in Palm Springs, Coachella, and Cathedral City, along with speculation about taking over the former Elephant Bar space in Palm Desert.

None of those plans ever materialized.

So Did Any of the New Hooters Ever Open?

No.

As of now, none of the Hooters locations announced in that initial wave ever opened in the Coachella Valley. No confirmed permits, construction, or official reopening plans have surfaced since those early announcements.

The Coachella Valley Has Had a Hooters Before

This wouldn’t have been the first time. Years earlier, Hooters operated a restaurant near the intersection of Highways 111 and 74. That location eventually closed, and the building was later replaced by a Starbucks.

Since then, there has been no active Hooters presence in the valley.

Why These Announcements Sometimes Go Nowhere

Restaurant expansion plans often get announced well before leases are signed or construction begins. Sites fall through, markets change, and priorities shift. When that happens, projects quietly disappear without much follow-up.

This appears to be one of those cases.

Update: This post was refreshed to clarify the status of previously announced Hooters locations in the Coachella Valley. As of now, none of the proposed restaurants have opened.
