John Oliver and ‘Last Week Tonight’ discussed America’s terrible maternity leave policies on The Mother’s Day episode of the show.
While other countries offer paid maternity leave (some as much as 26 weeks!), the US is the only wealthy country in the world that has no nationwide paid leave policy for mothers.
“You can’t have it both ways,” Oliver said. “You can’t go on and on about how much you love mothers, and then fail to support legislation that makes life easier for them.”
