Joshua Tree Music Festival: Parking or Camping?

Tent camping is included with Joshua Tree Music Festival admission, which makes staying for the weekend appealing. The practical question is how far you are willing to carry your gear. Walk-in camping and a vehicle beside the tent need different passes; sleeping in the day parking lot is prohibited.

Three ways to do the trip

One Saturday, with a drive home

Two adult Saturday tickets at $138.38 each, plus one $23.27 single-day parking pass, total $300.03 before food or travel. That parking pass permits one entry, with no vehicle reentry. Do your supply run first.

One Saturday, with a tent

The same admission includes Saturday-night walk-in camping. Carry your equipment from day parking; gear drop-offs by car are not allowed. Leave or upgrade admission by 10 a.m. Sunday. Sleeping in the day lot is prohibited, even though your ticket includes camping elsewhere.

The full weekend

Two Tier 3 weekend passes at $322.24 each, plus one $39.64 weekend day-parking pass, total $684.12 before food or travel. Walk-in camping is included; the weekend parking pass allows vehicle reentry. A vehicle beside your campsite requires a separate vehicle-camping pass. Check its size category before buying.

Arrive while check-in is open

The festival’s gate information lists Thursday and Friday check-in from 8 a.m.–11 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–10 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.–6 p.m. A first arrival after box-office hours cannot enter without a wristband. Wednesday access requires a separately purchased early-entry pass.

Head to the campground address above; the festival takes place outside Joshua Tree National Park. Arrive with time to check in and put up the tent before the first set you want to hear. Getting settled is much more pleasant without a soundtrack you are missing.

What camping changes

Full-weekend campers leave Monday by 11 a.m. Bring a tent, refillable water containers, secured shade and layers. October can still be hot, and wind can make unsecured canopies dangerous. This is an October festival plan, not a recommendation for exposed summer camping.

Hot showers are free from 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; filtered drinking water is available in the campground and music area. Family camping occupies the northwest corner and is quiet after dark. Contact the organizer before arrival for accessible camping arrangements.

Pack for the distance between the parked car and the tent. A compact load makes the cheaper parking arrangement workable; equipment that takes several carries changes the decision. If carrying gear is a barrier, settle the access arrangement with the organizer before purchasing.

If you are sleeping off-site

Choose your driver and return plan before committing to a hotel. Arrange both directions before booking an off-site room; do not assume a festival shuttle or late-night rideshare will be available. A room reservation does not solve the trip back after the music.

Keep the following morning light if you stay for late sets. Save a separate day for Landers and the Integratron, or compare other day trips from the valley. A festival weekend does not need another full itinerary attached to it.
