Riverside County Department of Animal Services officials were able to rescue eleven ducklings from a La Quinta storm drain they had fallen down.

Someone at La Quinta Golf Estates spotted the baby ducks fall down the drain and called officials Friday afternoon, reports the Press Enterprise.

Officials first tried to scoop them up in a bucket, but that did not work too well as the ducklings ran away from it. So instead, a cat-transfer cage was lowered down and the ducks were rescued.

Officers attempted to reunite the ducklings with their mother, who they believed was in a nearby lake. But, when they were unable to find her, they took them to the the Coachella Valley animal campus – where tthey will be taken care of until they can be released to the Coachella Valley Wild Bird Center in Indio.
