A man was arrested in Palm Springs over the weekend after police say he was found sleeping on top of an AR-15 assault rifle.
The Palm Springs Police Department told KESQ that officers received a call for a welfare check for a man that appeared to need medical attention or under the influence of drugs on Saturday a little before 1:30 pm near Highway 111 and Tipton.
Firefighters arrived first and spotted what they say was and AR-15 underneath the man. Crews immediately jumped on the man and removed the rifle from the immediate area.
Steven Gurule, 32, was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an assault rifle, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and resisting an officer.
