Police arrested a 36-year-old man after they say he murdered his father at a home near Desert Hot Springs.
Jose Angel Velasco, 36, was arrested Sunday in the area of Sixth Street and South Grand Avenue in Los Angeles, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Jose Luis Velasco, 64, was found dead at his home on Via Corto West on August 1. Neighbors told The Desert Sun he was well known and a friendly man. Police say the younger Velasco was living at home at the time of the crime.

“He was the ice cream man,” said Anna Morataya, who lived across the street from the victim for eight years. “He always said, ‘Hi.’”
Teresa Ortega, Velasco’s niece, told KESQ he was a joyous man.
“He was very polite, he is very nice, he always has beautiful smile, all the time everyday. He was a very happy person,” she said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
