A Texas man was arrested this week after police say he stole over a million dollars with of fajitas.
An investigation began after a driver tried to drop off 800 pounds of fajitas at The Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department in August, according to the Brownsville Herald.. There was a bit of confusion as a woman working for the department told the delivery driver that the department didn’t not serve fajitas. The driver then told the woman that he had been delivering fajitas to that location for the past nine years.
Gilberto Escaramilla, an employee with the Juvenile Justice Department, had taken the day off for a medical appointment. The next day he was confronted about the delivery and confessed he had been stealing the fajitas for the past nine years, then would resell the packets of meat, onion, and pepper goodness to customers. The District Attorney’s office concluded the exact dollar value of the fajitas at $1,251,578.
“If it wasn’t so serious, you’d think it was a Saturday Night Live skit. But this is the real thing,” District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said.
