Most recent improvements to movie theaters have been all about grownups – reserving your seat, reclining chairs, booze at the concessions stand – but one theater chain is bringing something new for the youngsters to the cineplex: playgrounds in the theater.
Cinepolis, a movie theater chain out of Mexico (don’t tell Trump) is remodeling two theaters in Southern California to include a play area, jungle gym, and beanbag chairs. The theaters are in Pico Rivera and Vista.
“It’s really intended to make kids feel welcome and comfortable,” Cinepolis USA Chief Executive Adrian Mijares Elizondo told the LA Times. “The whole idea is to make it easier for parents to take their kids to the movies and let the kids have more fun.”
Here are some photos:
And while the company is banking big on this (each auditorium costs about $500,000 to upgrade), social media pretty much hates the idea:
Great. More noise. When will theaters have kid-free screenings? https://t.co/Wx6MeeAWoi

This is the worst idea I've ever seen; movie theaters are for appreciating art, not being a playgroundhttps://t.co/rMOass9CEJ

Alas, those Cinepolis Jr. theaters will only show kid-friendly movies. So you can't see JOHN WICK 2 while your kids play in the playground.

A playground in a movie theater. Wow this idea is the stupidest one I've heard so far today. Kids are loud ya know? https://t.co/J8ZIWrETBR
