Update: the chairs are back.
“Desert Trip” – a three day festival pretty much everyone is calling “OldChella” and that your dad is still angry about not getting tickets to – very quietly made a pretty big policy change for the event that has some fans upset and will end up leaving plenty of sore legs and feet come October.
The website for “Desert Trip” previously had said that those buying general admission tickets would be allowed to bring chairs into the venue – but, that was quietly changed by the event’s promoter Goldenvoice.
Here is what the website says now:
The fine print on the website reads, “the event producer reserves the right, at its discretion, to change, modify, add or remove portions of these terms at any time. Please check back periodically for changes.”
The L.A. Times reports on Cindy Reul, a 65-year-old who plunked down $1700 for 4 general admission tickets for her husband and friends. She noticed the change and reached out to Goldenvoice:
Reul emailed Goldenvoice and explained the situation. “We are 65 years old,” she said. “We need chairs to sit on. How can you change the rules after I have bought my tickets?”
A Goldenvoice rep emailed back saying that to accommodate all general-admission ticket holders “equally, fairly and safely, in regard to space distribution, we must forego chairs and blankets in the venue.”
Goldenvoice offered to look for reserved seats for Reul (which were priced at $1,600 before selling out) or she could get her money back.
Reul said she wants neither.
“I don’t want to pay more for a ticket,” she told the Times. “And I don’t want a refund. I want to go to the concert. I just want them to do what they promised.”
