A Palm Springs man was arrested early Thursday morning after police say he climbed through the window of a Palm Springs home and physically and sexually assaulted a married couple.

Police responded to a 911 call from a woman on E. Mesquite Avenue who said that a man had broken a window of her home then climbed into the house and physically and sexually assaulted her and her husband, according to a release from the PSPD.

The couple pushed the suspect away, but he remained in the house trying to get dressed.

The homeowners moved into the living room where the wife called 911 – but the suspect followed them into the room, according to investigators.

While on the phone with dispatchers the female caller began screaming that the suspect was attacking her and trying to take away the phone, according to police. The woman’s husband was able to pull the suspect off of her and held him down until police arrived.

Officers arrived at the home 6 minutes after the initial call and arrested Thomas Mabe, 44, of Palm Springs.

Mabe was arrested for residential burglary, violation of probation, sexual assault, committing oral copulation during course of a burglary, oral copulation while victim asleep, and failure to register as a sex registrant within 30 days.

In their release, police noted that Mabe was arrested on March 1 after complaints about a man trying to grab a 16-year-old girl. Mabe pleaded guilty to charges of probation violation and child annoyance and was released from jail on March 19.
