A driver who smashed a Palm Springs fire hydrant, sending a flood of water into the road, left behind a major clue that should make it pretty easy for police to track them down.

The accident happend at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night on Southbound Avenida Caballeros just south of Tahquitz Canyon Way in front of Shakey’s Pizza. The road had to be closed down because of flooding.

As KESQ reports, the hit and run driver is probably going to be caught:

Witnesses say the driver left the scene but left behind a bumper, including the car’s license plate.

It took crews 45 minutes to shut the water off.

There have been no reports of an arrest…yet.
