Phil Mickelson probably won’t play the CareerBuilder in January

Seven months after announcing Phil Mickelson would be the new ambassador for the CareerBuilder Challenge, it looks like the pro golfer will not be playing in the tournament next month. Bummer.

“Yes, it is very disappointing that the likelihood is he isn’t going to play,” CareerBuilder Challenge tournament director Nick Raffaele told the Desert Sun. “But from a tournament director standpoint, I’m looking forward to having his as the ambassador and, health willing, walking around and seeing the tournament.”

In addition to replacing Bill Clinton with Mickelson, the tournament is making a few changes for 2017 including adding a beer garden that gives discounts every time a player birdies and a concert  after Saturday’s round with Fitz and the Tantrums. The band played Coachella in 2015 and a free show at an Inland Empire mall this past Saturday.
