Elections are about votes, sure, but they are really about money. And based on current fundraising numbers for the race to represent the Coachella Valley in Congress, the election is pretty much over.

Democratic Rep. Raul Ruiz pulled in $458,624 in the first quarter of 2016, reports the Desert Sun. That brings his campaign war chest up to $1.85 million – which sure does seem like a lot.

Ruiz’s Republican challenger, Jeff Stone, reportedly raised $118,655 in the first three months of the year and had $102,491 in campaign cash as of the first of the month – which sure seems like not enough.

Then again, money does not always win elections.  Just 94 percent of the time.
