Section of Highway 111 should be named after slain officers, says Assemblyman

The two Palm Springs police officers killed in the line of duty in October could have a portion of Highway 111 named for them.

Assemblyman Chad Mayes introduced a resolution on Wednesday calling for the section of the Highway between Overture and West San Rafael drives be named for officers Jose “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny, notes the Desert Sun.

“Officers Vega and Zerebny gave their lives protecting the people of Palm Springs,” Mayes said in a statement. “This memorial highway will ensure we always remember the sacrifice these heroes made upholding their oath to protect and serve.”
