The Palm Springs Walk of Stars, a collection of the names of undeserving people who you have mostly never heard of lining parts of Palm Canyon Drive, could soon be under new management if Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon has his way. The current president of the non-profit who runs the stars, Robert Alexander is shocked the city would consider taking the stars away from his oversight and is stunned that many in Palm Springs mock the stars for being nothing but a dumb monument for those who can cough up 10 grand or know a gas station owner who will do it for them.
“We’re totally in shock and very sad about it,” Alexander told KMIR. “It makes it seem like stars in the past have paid strictly to get a star that has never happened.”
The Mayor told the television station that after a year of sitting on the board for the stars, he became concerned about some of the “qualifications” for those who received approval for a star – which Alexander says is not fair since the mayor voted yes to everyone who got a star.
The city council will discuss the future of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars at Wednesday’s city council meeting and Alexander told KMIR they will not go quietly, tell the TV station they will seek legal counsel.
