Things to Do in The Palm Springs Area This Weekend (7/18 – 7/20)

Weekend
This weekend’s entertainment offerings in The Coachella Valley range from MMA fighting to dueling pianos to animals eating ice cream – and if you are up for a drive, you can see a bunch of bands you really liked in the 90’s:
    1. MMA Gladiator Challenge “Night of Champions”: Six title matches including two female bouts take place this Saturday night at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino. Tickets start at $35
    2. Dive In Movie : Every Friday night in July, just after dusk, Palm Springs Wet ‘n’ Wild will be showing a movie that you can watch poolside.  This week’s flick is The Amazing Spiderman.
    3. Free Tribute Bands: Friday night get your Santana Fix at Spotlight 29 and Saturday it is a Green Day tribute at Fantasy Springs Resort.  They are not the real bands, but they are close, and it is free – so go enjoy.
    4. Dueling PianosWhile some Coachella Valley venues have gone on hiatus for the summer, The Purple Room has been showcasing cool entertainment pretty much every weekend.  Friday’s show features two awesome piano players who let the audience decide what is played and (more importantly) what is not played.
    5. Watch a Giraffe Eat Cherry Garcia: Sunday is National Ice Cream Day (who knew?).  And The Living Desert will be celebrating by doling out Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to 40 or so of their animals throughout the day.

If you find yourself up for a drive, here are a couple of bonus options:

    1.  Night of 90’s Jams You Used to Love (& Probably Still Do)Everclear, Soul Asylum, Eve 6, & Spacehog take their “Summerland Tour” to Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center on Saturday night.  Tickets are $40 and up.
    2. Berlin in Big Bear: If the 90’s don’t take you back far enough, then head up to Big Bear Friday night and relive the 80’s with Berlin as the play The Cave.  Tickets start at $25.
