Two arrested in Desert Hot Springs following police chase

Two Desert Hot Springs men were arrested on Tuesday after leading police on a short car chase in the city.

DHS police attempted to approach the men, who they suspected of illegal drug activity, in the Stater Bros. parking lot about 2pm. The men fled, leading police on a car chase that lasted about five minutes, according to KESQ.

The vehicle stopped at Two Bunch Palms and Palm Drive, where both men exited the car and tried to flee on foot, but were apprehended after a short pursuit.

Byron Gutierrez, 19, identified as the driver, was arrested on suspicion of evading police.

Pablo Cruz, 22, was arrested on possible felony possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and violation of post-release community supervision.

There were no illegal drugs found.
