In a very WTF story (even for Desert Hot Springs), a 38-year-old man was arrested Friday by Desert Hot Springs police on suspicion of attempted murder.

The shooting happened around 3:30 Friday afternoon in the area of Little Morongo Road and Two Bunch Palms Trail.

According to KESQ, the 38-year-old guy was walking his dog when he was approached by a pit bull. For reasons that are not made clear by KESQ, the man then pulled a gun and tried to shoot the pit bull.

At that point, the owner of the pit bull came outside of his home. Then (once again for reasons that are not made clear), the suspect shot the man in the head.

The victim was taken to Desert Regional with a non-life threatening graze wound.

The suspect, who was not named, was taken into custody, while authorities are currently searching the area for the weapon used.
