A probabation officer was at an apartment complex on Sunset Avenue at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and recognized a man, 37-year-old Louie Pescador, who was on probation.
“They stopped him, searched him and saw a handgun on him and as they went to hand cuff him, he broke away from them, actually assaulted one of the officers, and fled from him and barricaded himself inside one of the apartments,” Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Dale Mondary told KESQ.
Police closed the street around the apartment building down and asked nearby residents to stay indoors.

After 3 hours, police were seen handcuffing 3 people.
“We arrested Louie Pescador for assault on a peace officer, and violation of probation as well as being under the influence of drugs and also arrested Christopher Madril for felony in procession of a firearm as well as two outstanding warrants,” said Mondary.
A third person, an unidentified woman, was detained, but not arrested. Police say no one was injured, including the officer who was assaulted.
Pescador was just released from jail last weekend, according to KESQ. He was arrested in August on weapons charges for a similar standoff at this same complex.
“This is not the kind of stuff we want going on in our neighborhood,” Brandy Hartland, who lives a block from the scene, told The Desert Sun. “There are children around here. It’s not good for them to see this.”
