Like many of you, I enjoy a lazy Sunday.  On a recent such day,  I was lounging around the house and watching a little football.  The temperatures of The Desert had finally cooled enough to open the windows and enjoy the breeze.

Unfortunately, the games weren’t going my way and this put my in somewhat of a sour mood – so I decided to do what many would do in this situation: Make a drink!

I did not feel like having a beer or a shot of tequila, rather I wanted something a little more refined. I wanted something that would warm me up and console me from my football sadness.

I really wanted like something chocolatey and nutty, earthy yet smooth.  That is when I stumbled upon “The Crazy 88” – a drink named after the gang of assassins from one of my flicks, Kill Bill.crazy 88 cocktail

I started with brandy, elegant and smooth, just the refinement that I was looking for. Then some Cynar, made primarily from artichokes, it provides the earthiness that I was after. A barspoon of Frangelico and a part of Carpano Antica gave this drink a really nice Italian influence. I finished it all off with Peychaud’s Bitters and a splash of Solerno Blood Orange liqueur – which I recommend every home bar have on hand, to really make a drink pop!

The Crazy 88 is a roller coaster of amazing flavors, suddenly all of my football woes were forgotten – and this drink can do the same for yours. And good news, as a Raider fan, I should have plenty more reasons this season to create other libations.

Cheers!
