The Republican National Convention is not off to the best start for the GOP, what with Melania Trump’s plagiarism accusations and Rudy Giuliani doing his best Nosferatu impression Monday night. Now there is news that things have gotten even worse, as the LA Times reports at least 12 California GOP staff members have been quarantined in their hotel rooms after showing signs of having norovirus.

The 550-member delegation was warned of the outbreak by state GOP officials in an email at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. They were advised to avoid shaking hands with others, to wash hands frequently, to avoid sharing food and to not use the delegation buses to the convention if they have any symptoms — all difficult rules to follow at a political convention.

The county’s Health Commissioner is investigating, having already taken fecal samples from those affected – and wow, don’t conventions sound fun!

The virus, usually spreads in crowded settings like cruise ships and affects 19 to 21 million people in the US every year.   Symptoms included stomach pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Those who come down with it, usually recover rather quickly – but it can be fatal for the elderly and the very young.

California’s delegation is staying at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky Ohio located a whopping 60 miles from the convention.  The hotel is connected to the country’s largest waterpark.
