The Palm Springs mayor is worried people are going to steal the CV Link

During a city council meeting Wednesday night, Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon discussed his biggest fear about the proposed 50 mile bike path that is CV Link: thieves are going to take it.

Moon, who suggested putting the CV Link on the ballot for voters to decide on like Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells have done (remind me why we vote for council people then?), is worried about the cost of the project for taxpayers (for once, I guess).

Via The Desert Sun:

“We’re talking about 10 miles of CV Link, north of the city and east of the city where there’s nobody around there, and we’re going to have all this infrastructure up there. And I’m just curious, how long… is all of the this infrastructure going to last before it’s ripped out and stolen and we have to start replacing it,” Moon told his council members during a discussion of the trail, which was not up for a vote of any sort. “I really think that we should look at this after we have an idea of what it’s going to cost, or what it could cost.”

The issue might best be placed in front of voters, said Moon.

“Because it’s going to be their tax-payer dollars that’s going to be paying to maintain this thing,” said Moon. “And it’s going to be their dollars paying for the police to monitor this thing.”

Moon did not explain how city streets and sidewalks in the same area have not been stolen yet, but he did state that he believes that the path will be pillaged because someone stole LED lighting out of a sign at some point.

“Our sign, as you come into the city, which is new, has already had the LED lighting ripped out,” the mayor proclaimed. “It’s already been broken.”

Construction on the The CV Link is set to begin in Cathedral City at some point this year.
