A Local Favorite: Fish & Chips at Tap-In Taproom (Palm Desert)

Meat and potatoes. Pizza and beer. Coffee and basic survival. Some things are just meant to go together. Fish and chips is near the top of that list.
If you’re looking for a surprisingly solid fish and chips plate in Greater Palm Springs, there’s a good chance you’ll find it in the last place you’d expect: a grocery store.
Quick note: This post was originally written years ago and has been refreshed to keep it accurate. Menus, prices, and specials change (because of course they do), but this spot is still a reliably good option when you’re craving fish and chips.
Fish & Chips at Tap-In Taproom (Whole Foods, Palm Desert)
The Tap-In Taproom is a casual spot located inside Whole Foods Market in Palm Desert. A lot of people grab slices, sandwiches, or hot bar food and use the seating area as a convenient place to eat. The better move is ordering directly from the Tap-In menu, which typically includes burgers, salads, and, yes, fish and chips.
The fish and chips here is simple, and that’s why it works. You get big pieces of white fish that aren’t overly breaded and aren’t swimming in grease. The plate comes with fries, a little slaw, a lemon wedge, and tartar sauce. If you’re the type who needs ketchup and/or malt vinegar, you can ask for it.
The fish is the star. The fries usually show up crisp. The tartar is fresh. It’s exactly what you want when you’re craving fish and chips and don’t feel like making a whole event out of it.
Beer Pairing Bonus
Another reason this place works: there’s usually a solid rotation of beers on tap. If you’re into IPAs, lagers, stouts, sours, or whatever your current personality is, you can typically find something worth pairing with the fish and chips.
Good to know: Tap-In has offered specials and promos in the past, especially on Fridays, but those can change seasonally. It’s worth double-checking what they’re running before you head over.
When to Go
This is a great “easy win” lunch or early dinner, especially when you want something casual that still feels like a real meal. During cooler months, outdoor seating can be a nice bonus if it’s available.
